My Story
All photography begins with looking. For as long as I can remember, I have seen the world through a lens, even without a camera in my hands. Mobile phones have made photography instant, replacing the 36-exposure film with the endless accumulation of digital photographs. So many images remain unseen, unprinted, and unshared, suspended in the cloud. Forgotten.
This exhibition has allowed me to return to places and images almost forgotten, revisiting images I once must have loved. My selected works reflect my ongoing interest in black and white, shadow and light, dark skies, texture, atmosphere, and familiar places.
In responding to the theme ‘Connections’, I found myself returning not to a single subject, but to a number of images reflecting my curiosity and appreciation of the world around me. I am drawn to darkness and decay, to dilapidation, neglect, peeling posters, distressed paintwork, and rust. Yet my eye is equally caught by faces, landscapes, and the quiet strangeness of objects. The connection across my images is not the subject matter, but the act of photographing itself. I remain guided by instinct, curiosity, and the pleasure and stress of pressing the shutter to see what might happen.
