Let’s cut straight to the point, no matter who you are, what your background is or what you do in life there are big set-piece events, and decisions to make which have big impacts on you, how you live your life and also those people closest to you.
Over the last 10 years or so, pretty much the length of time we’ve been “Married With Grown-ups”, Viv and myself have been through a number of these. At one end of life’s journey we’ve welcomed our three fantastic grand-children and at the other end we’ve said goodbye for the last time to all 4 of our parents.
As we both verge on the edge of turning 60 (Viv in June and I follow in December) one of the next big things we’ve come around to is retirement.
Viv left work in 2020 to look after and care for her parents. I carried on until May this year when I left work for the last time after a 40 year career, 22 of which were spent at Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce (you can see the highlight reel here https://tinyurl.com/8vvu7yy2 )
It took a few people by surprise but you just know deep inside when the time is right to move on.
So what now?
Well, thankfully we aren’t short of a hobby or two to keep us busy and, thankfully, we do still love and enjoy each other’s company!
Plus we can now start to spend more time on getting a bit more expansive with ‘Married With Grown Ups' more opportunity to travel, more photos to take and more places to visit.
One of the things we’ve enjoyed over the last 10 years are those places we’ve been to, some very well known, some local to us, others undiscovered little gems we’ve found on our travels whilst out with our cameras. The one common factor is that many of these don’t need a big expensive trip or a major investment to get there, they’re just places we’ve been to either as a planned destination whilst we’ve been away or somewhere that’s just sounded like ‘our type of place’ a little nearer to home.
They could be places that by themselves seem pretty unremarkable, maybe mundane, but have a fascinating story or reason to visit – wait till you see why we went to Woking!
Which brings us nicely to our new idea; ‘The Mundane Travellers’ a chance to celebrate the ordinary in our own unique and personal way, shining a spotlight on places anyone can go and things anyone can do.
‘Married With Grown Ups’ will continue, there’s plenty of photos still to take – but the places we take them and how we get there? That’s where the ‘The Mundane Travellers’ come in and we’d love you to join us on the journey. So come join us at @the_mundane_travellers, not so much a walk on the wild side, more a ramble on the mild side!
